Uploading pictures of my scale has gotten to be a useless pain in the ass, so I’m not going to do it anymore. Granted, photos of the scale are the fastest way to keep note of what I tipped every day, but the bandwidth to the blog sucks. So much so that I’ve neglected to post anything for a few weeks.

Anyhow, having not met my goal in mid January, I decided to just keep on keepin’ on since the diet isn’t that restrictive. I’m still cutting most carbs out of my diet during the week and I’m still binging on Saturdays. I’m still losing weight and fat. Keeping me straight are daily weigh-ins and bi-weekly 20 minute workouts.

Recently I went ahead and stuck all the data into a spreadsheet and whipped up some graphs. With the variability during the week, sometimes it’s hard to tell if I’m actually losing weight or not, but the graphs show the trend very clearly.

The bottom line on each graph represents the goal I set when I started My original goals were to lose 10Lbs and drop 4%(133Lbs, 16%). Edit: I’ve added the moving average here to give me a better idea where I stabilize. I list the % figure as “bioimpedance” because the scale doesn’t actually give you an accurate body fat percentage (only a reasonable guess useful for a relative measure of change).

The plan now is to just stick to the diet until I hit my goals, and then probably further still until I can see my full 6-pack abs most of the time. I don’t know how long that’ll be but it doesn’t seem too far off. Once I hit my weight/fat goals, I might switch to a muscle building plan however. I hadn’t really decided that one yet though as I think it may take more time/planning investment than just cutting things out of a diet.

Week’s recap and takeaways

Chocolate Chip Cookies are fucking delicious.

Conversely, Cultured Cottage Cheese is disgusting (tastes exactly like vomit).

Not logging meals in the blog wastes a lot of time when trying to recall

Cravings are still harder immediately after binge day.

Standing in front of the mirror, my gut is noticeably smaller. It’s still a bit flabby when I’m sitting down however. Over all, I feel like I’ve lost a little bit of my gut, but I’m still not satisfied with the progress I’ve made. At this rate it seems like it’s going to take more than a month to get my gut down to the size I want it.

I’ve cut out all sodas during the week (save binge day) and am drinking a lot more water. My starting weight is somewhere in the range of 141 – 144Lbs. My goal is to lose my nascent spare tire, which translates into about 10Lbs. (I’ll consider it done if I can draw my fingers from below my bellybutton to my chest without catching flab). I’m also doing a few minutes of cold exposure before bed and have resolved to exercise at least once a week.

I don’t really look drastically different.

I spent a few hours last wednesday cleaning up all of the domains on my VPS. I removed all non-essential software as well as upgraded all web software to the latest versions. And I cleaned up the second root kit in a month. Hopefully all the holes are plugged. Running this thing that I never write in is almost not even worth it anymore.

So, for the sake of curiosity, I ran a little experiment: Last time I filled my gas tank I turned off my A/C and began driving ultra conservatively. i.e. shifting at factory recommended RPMs, using cruise control, and driving at the posted speed limit at a constant rate. I filled my tank back to full after 53 miles to find an average consumption of 32.3MPG for my round trip to work down the freeway; which is depressingly good compared to what I usually get, 26.7MPG (+20%!). Running the numbers, this translates into roughly $10/week or 7.4% of my commute budget. And, whence put in that perspective, I’ve turned back on my A/C and have returned to driving as normal. (As it would take 40 years of driving like that to save enough to buy my car again.)
